The KingBees Blues Band was formed in August of 1993. They began as a throw together band for some friends who wanted some live Blues music at their summer barbeque. The group enjoyed themselves and elected to keep the formation together. Throughout the next several months they found themselves well received as they began working low profile appearances in neighborhood clubs. Since that time the group has expanded from a simple four-piece jam band to the full sound six-piece format they are today.
The groups repertoire ranges from Blues to Jazz to popular music. They perform selections from classic Blues artists such as Junior Wells, The Blues Brothers and B.B King. Other more mainstream selections include R&B classics from performers like Ray Charles and Wilson Pickett. Popular music selections include material from artists like Van Morrison, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Rolling Stones and The Allman Brothers.
The group continues today playing many of the Cleveland areas most popular venues. They spend the summer months appearing as favorites at many area's seasonal events and street festivals.
Brantt (B.B.) Hamilton - Harp & Vocals
Brantt it a true bluesman. He is an energetic performer whose down home harmonica style has flavored the sound of a myriad of area Blues bands. The list includes Princess Lydia and Her Blue Knights, Bill Dog and the Extrodinars, Twelve Gauge, The Back Street Blues Band, and of course, The KingBees Back
John McComb - Bass Guitar
John is a versatile bassist who likes to describe his favorite playing style as dark funk. He began his musical journey at age nine when he took up playing the violin. At 15 his interests drew him to the electric bass guitar. John obtained a Masters Degree in Music Performance from the University of Maryland in 1996. After which he played concert bass with the Columbus Symphony from 1996-2002. During that time he had the opportunity to perform a duet with Bobby McPherrin. Currently he performs concert bass in a more formal setting with the Akron symphony. Some of his past electric bass projects include the Electric Bluesmen, The Front, and Princess Lydia and her Blue Knights. Back
Reggie Redd - Tenor Saxophone
Reggie Redd in a true veteran of the Cleveland music scene. Born in Cleveland, Reggie moved to Kansas City in 1962 where he was exposed to the flourishing Kansas City Blues scene. He returned to the Cleveland area in 1965. He spent the latter part of the 60's working in a variety bands in every Jazz and Blues joint he could find a gig. During 1970's Reggie signed on as a full time union player. During his time as a union player he was hired to back legends such as Bobby Blue Bland, Colin McCray, and Robert Jr. Lockwood. There doesn't seem to be a horn player around town that doesn't know Reggie Back
Mike Binder - Guitar & Vocals
Mike played his first bar gig at the age of 16. He spent the early portion of the eighties in the top forty group Archer. After the groups demise in 1983 he began taking one-man guitar gigs to pick up some extra cash. The gig quickly evolved and he then spent the years from 1984-1995 as one of the area's most popular one-man entertainers. He has amused audiences for more than a decade from the Cleveland Flats to Put-in-bay to the Wineries of Geneva-On-The-Lake. He and Brantt where introduced in the lat 80ís at Mikeís first show at the infamous Shire; Cleveland State Universities now defunct campus bar. Brantt sat in and played that day and they began a friendship that has lasted to this day. In 1993 Brantt invited him to play guitar at the infamous back yard barbeque spawning the birth of the KingBees. Back
Scott Wilson - Piano and Organ
Scott is the latest addition to the KingBees line up. Drawn out of retirement in 1998 Scott has brought the group's sound full circle. Formally trained in Jazz at the Eastlake School of Music he spent most of the eighties playing with his band, the Akron area, Hobson's Choice. His tastful an unique stylings have become an integral part of the KingBee sound. Back
Jon (J.D.) Darling - Drums
Jon has been playing drums and percussion for 33 yrs. He began with formal lessons at six yrs old and studied classical percussion for 12 years. He started gigging out in clubs at age 16. He has amassed more than 20 years of professional playing experience. Jon spent the late eighties playing & touring a majority of North America with tribute show group Cleveland. The group toured Canada and the US performing their infamous "50 Minutes of Total Insanity" show. During the nineties Jon played with The Burnt River Band; known all over the United States & Canada as "America's #1 biker band." His tour of duty with the group included 2 trips out to Sturgis, Myrtle Beach, Toronto, Iowa and stops in Chicago. Today, when Jonís not gigging with the KingBees he can be found behind the kit with many popular area groups that include Full Moon Fever, The Murtle Band, and Cuzz.
